No means. . . by Rauge No means. . . by Rauge
EDIT 2:
While the ideology behind the pieces differ in more ways then one, my art and BenHeine's art ([link])
have a similar visual concept. His design was a major inspiration in this, but I honestly did not intend the similarities, so if anyone is concerned or what have you, please send me a note, or comment bellow, :).

When you say no, what do you really mean? And not only that, but what messages are you really sending to the recipient of the 'No'?
EDIT: Holy crap, thank you guys for all the favorite! I didn't know that this would be so popular, thanks!

When you say no. . . Mean it.

Edit:
And when someone else says no. . . Don't read too far into it and inbetween the lines looking for a yes, or a maybe/okay. The Answer is No.
````````````````````````````````````````````````
On a lighter note, this is my first try at typography, and comments and concerns are appreciated. Tell me how yall like it!
See, i agree with the message both ways, but i approve of this where i dont approve of the "only yes means yes" stamp i saw the other day, if i ask my wife for sex and she says "sure" it's not rape...
Wow.
This piece really hit home.
Because I really suck at saying no. xD;
I love the little periods, how they say 'okay' and 'maybe', because that's more what I say, and then it becomes a yes after that.
this piece is really stunning, and really stands out. Good job!
*fave'd* ... A vivid and witty dramatizing of a popular truth, one that hauls it back from being a simple cliché.
We live in a mealy-mouthed age where too many hesitate to make a decision and make it stick, and this perfectly crystallizes my own frequent frustration.
I often make a "comment bellow" (serendipitous typo of an added L there {grin}) in posting truly long statements, but I do want to reassure you about inspiration:
You're not stealing anything when you're genuinely inspired — especially if you freely acknowledge the inspiration, as you have. I hope no one accuses you of this. And I say this without even having seen the other work as yet.
Ideas can be shared infinitely with no marginal cost. You might deduce that I'm not much of a partisan of the concepts of copyright or "intellectual property." They're certainly overrated as to what they protect, or can protect, and how well.
... And now I've seen the other work. Your take is more successful. The stolid, fixed nature of type creates more of a subtext.
This fave is part of my "Do a Turnover of My Recent Favorites, with Comments, Catching Up on Overdue Recogntion, as an Alternative to the Stupor Bowl" initiative. What better way to get a diversion from the Bread and Circuses spectacle? (It's certainly better than the much-vaunted commercials being shown this afternoon.)
Wow. Thanks a ton for your comment, it's truly an honor to me that you like this. I thank you again for taking that much time to write such detailed a comment, so I feel that I am obligated to reply equally, :P
We do live a very mealy-mouthed age, and very 'politically-correct' as well, which really isn't a good thing in the long run, but meh, that's a different topic all together, :P
Thank you so much, and I am soooo glad that you like mine, but I do have to admit that his is 10x more popular than mine, so obviously the majority of people would disagree with you, :P But again, your comment means alot to me, and it surely reassures my pressing concerns about such topics.
Thanks you
~Rauge
It was my pleasure. Provocative typographic art that has some commentary is rare at dA, at least from what I can see, and I try to encourage it.
I'd suggest giving more weight to comments that are left than to numbers of faves. It's too easy to just hit that (now even bigger) fave button. I choose to not make any favorite without leaving a comment — for artists and writers deserve a reason for that response, even a brief one.
A very nice idea that you conveyed here. :D And sometimes you can say things you don't really mean to say, or that you can't really voice your opinion on truthfully, so those could be situations where you say "No" when you really mean to say "Yes". :nod: There isn't anything wrong I can spot out, but the letter "O" seems to have a bit of a blank space at 3 o'clock (to the right). Overall, a job well done. Can't believe that it's your first try! You make me want to try typography again. :heart:
Yeah, I noticed the black spot in the 'O' too, and I felt like it added more to the picture, rather than just having an entire solid 'NO', you now have a 'No' with holes in it, as well as with the ''Yes's''. And haha, your comment is true about the sarcasm/not meaning what you say. It happens to me all the time, such as if somone asks if I need help, I'll say no, when I really mean/want to say yes, but too scared, etc. Glad you picked that up, :D
That's smart. Yes, I tended to do that sometimes when I was younger - the part about lying because you're too scared to say you need help. I guess it was just in my nature. It still kind of is, just not as much anymore. ^^; Anyway, it'd be good to see you come up with a fresh new idea for typography. :D
